A quiet community in Edo State was thrown into shock after suspected kidnappers killed a middle aged man and abducted his teenage twin children during a late night attack on their home.
According to Punch, the incident occurred on December 11, 2025, at Kalabar Quarters in Afokpella, Etsako East Local Government Area. The victim was identified as Ilabeshi Okhale.
Residents said the assailants stormed Okhale’s residence late at night while he was at home with his family. To draw him outside, the gunmen reportedly switched off his generator. When Okhale stepped out to check what went wrong, he was attacked with machetes and sustained multiple cuts.
A resident who spoke on the incident explained that the attackers overpowered him within minutes. He later died from the injuries he sustained during the assault.
After killing him, the gunmen abducted his twin children, Emmanuel and Emmanuella, both aged 16, and took them into the nearby bush. According to residents, the kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N100 million.
“The gunmen came late in the night. They put off the generator to lure him out. As soon as he came out, they attacked him with machetes. He suffered several cuts and later died. They then took his twin children away and demanded N100 million, leaving the family without their breadwinner,” a resident said.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command confirmed the attack and announced that the abducted children have been rescued.
The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said police operatives responded immediately after receiving information about the incident. She stated that Okhale was rushed to Ajie Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. His remains were later deposited at Santa Maria Morgue in Jattu for autopsy.
According to her, a joint security operation involving the police, the army, Edo State Security Corps, local hunters, and vigilantes carried out extensive combing of surrounding bushes, which led to the successful rescue of the twins.
“I can tell you that the abducted twins have been rescued unhurt by the police and personnel of other sister agencies,” Ikoedem said.
She added that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to track down and arrest those responsible for the attack.
The incident has renewed concerns among residents over insecurity in rural communities, with locals calling for increased security presence to prevent further attacks.
