Bauchi Police Secure 124 Convictions, Recover N54m Assets in 2025

The Bauchi State Police Command recorded significant progress in crime control in 2025, securing 124 convictions and recovering assets valued at more than N54 million across the state.

According to a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, and made available to Punch Metro on Wednesday, the achievements were recorded between January and December 2025 as part of sustained efforts to strengthen public safety.

Hundreds of Cases Prosecuted

The police disclosed that a total of 881 criminal cases were recorded during the period under review, leading to the arrest of 1,532 suspects. Out of these cases, 880 were charged to court for prosecution.

Following legal reviews and due judicial processes, 124 cases resulted in convictions, while 756 cases are currently awaiting trial. One case, according to the police, remains under active investigation.

The command noted that the overall reduction in crime across all categories reflected its renewed commitment to protecting lives and property in Bauchi State.

Patrols, Raids, and Inter-Agency Collaboration

According to the statement, the police sustained round-the-clock patrols, guard duties, and targeted raids of identified criminal hotspots throughout the year. These operations, the command said, played a key role in curbing criminal activities.

Meanwhile, proactive strategies such as inter-agency collaboration, increased visibility policing, and stronger partnerships with community stakeholders were adopted. The police also said special attention was given to securing critical infrastructure across the state.

Arms, Vehicles, and Other Items Recovered

The Bauchi State Police Command reported the recovery of a wide range of dangerous weapons and other items linked to criminal activities. These included six AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, 12 dane guns, six fabricated pistols, and six fabricated single-barrel guns.

Officers also recovered 352 rounds of live ammunition, 16 cartridges, and seven magazines. In addition, five vehicles and 16 motorcycles were retrieved during various operations.

According to the police, suspected counterfeit currency was also recovered, including 220 pieces of N1,000 notes and five $100 bills. Other items seized included 42 mobile phones linked to house trespass and armed robbery cases, bloodstained clothing, sticks, and machetes connected to culpable homicide investigations.

The command further disclosed the recovery of suspected Cannabis sativa, quantities of tramadol tablets, and several other stolen or vandalised properties.

Public Support Credited for Success

The police estimated the total value of properties lost, stolen, or damaged in 2025 at N129.8 million, while the value of recovered items stood at N54.2 million.

According to the statement, many of the successes recorded during the year were made possible through credible intelligence provided by members of the public.

“It is important to note that these achievements were largely driven by timely and reliable information from residents, who remain valued partners in ensuring a safe and secure environment,” the command stated.

Focus Shifts to 2026

Looking ahead, the police said crime prevention efforts would continue through intelligence-led policing and sustained collaboration with sister security agencies and other organisations.

The command added that it is fully prepared for 2026, with plans to deploy more proactive strategies aimed at further improving the security of lives and property across Bauchi State.
