Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have intercepted two pick up vans believed to be transporting logistics supplies intended for Islamic State West Africa Province fighters in Borno State, according to the military.
The interception was confirmed on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, who said the operation was carried out based on actionable intelligence.
According to the statement, troops from Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North East, working closely with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, stopped the vehicles along a route leading into the Magumeri area of Borno State. The vans were reportedly moving from Dapchi in Yobe State when they were intercepted.
Military sources said the operation followed credible human intelligence that alerted headquarters to the suspicious movement of supplies believed to be destined for ISWAP elements operating in the region. Acting on the information, troops were tactically deployed to the identified corridor and successfully halted the vehicles.
A wide range of items was recovered during the operation. These included two civilian vehicles, 31 spare tyres, 23 spare rims, two bicycles, 12 ignition key starters, three alternators, two bags of flour, a mattress, five bags of charcoal, 34 tubers of yam, two blankets, two nylons of garri, assorted clothing for adults and children, a power bank, six mobile phones, and cash in different denominations.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba said the drivers transporting the items were arrested and are currently in military custody along with the recovered materials. He noted that they are undergoing interrogation to establish their level of involvement and to support ongoing counter terrorism investigations.
The military spokesman said the interception highlights the effectiveness of intelligence driven operations and the continued cooperation between troops and local security partners in disrupting terrorist supply routes across the North East.
He added that troops remain determined to block terrorist movement, dismantle logistics networks, and protect civilians in the region.
Meanwhile, the military has continued similar operations in other parts of the country. In January, troops of the 1 Brigade under Operation Fasan Yamma, working alongside operatives of the Department of State Services, intercepted a large cache of arms in Zamfara State. The operation took place in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area following intelligence linking suspected arms dealers to cross border networks connected to the Niger Republic.
