The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations closed with Senegal celebrating continental glory and several individual performances leaving a lasting mark on the tournament. From a tense, controversial final to record-setting displays, AFCON 2025 delivered moments that will be debated and remembered long after the final whistle.
Senegal emerged as champions after edging hosts Morocco 1–0 in extra time, securing their second AFCON title and reinforcing their status as one of Africa’s dominant football nations in recent years. Beyond the trophy, the post-tournament awards highlighted players and teams that shaped the competition’s narrative.
Individual awards recognize standout performances
Senegal captain Sadio Mané was named Player of the Tournament, underlining his continued influence at international level. Mané combined leadership with timely contributions, setting the tone for Senegal’s run and often stepping up in decisive moments when his side needed control and belief.
In goal, Morocco’s Yassine Bounou took home the Best Goalkeeper award. Known widely as Bono, he was a central figure in Morocco’s defensive solidity, producing a series of key saves that kept his team competitive throughout the knockout stages.
The Golden Boot went to Brahim Díaz, whose five goals made him the tournament’s leading scorer. Díaz also achieved a notable milestone, becoming the first player in AFCON history to score in five consecutive matches in a single edition of the competition. His consistency in front of goal stood out even as Morocco fell just short of lifting the trophy.
Morocco were further recognized with the Fair Play Award, reflecting their discipline, sportsmanship, and adherence to tournament regulations across all matches.
