A Lagos-based TikTok personality, Hamzat Habeeb, popularly known as Peller, has been hospitalised after crashing his car during a live broadcast on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, according to PUNCH Metro.
The incident occurred on Sunday during a livestream titled “RIP Peller,” which quickly spread across social media platforms. Viewers who joined the broadcast reported that the content creator appeared visibly distressed moments before the crash.
Distress visible before crash
According to reports, Peller was alone in his newly acquired Mercedes-Benz at the time. During the livestream, he was seen speaking emotionally on a phone call believed to be with his girlfriend, Jarvis, amid rumours of a strained relationship.
In footage reviewed by PUNCH Metro, the TikTok star made alarming statements, including threats to deliberately cause an accident. At one point, he was heard saying he was afraid, moments before driving off.
Shortly afterward, the livestream captured the vehicle veering off course and crashing into a stone barrier along the expressway. The broadcast ended abruptly following the impact.
Bystanders intervene
A separate video circulating online showed passersby and motorists rushing to assist Peller at the scene. He was later taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
As of the time of filing this report, details about the severity of his injuries had not been officially confirmed. However, photos shared on social media showed significant damage to the front of the Mercedes-Benz.
Police yet to confirm details
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the command was still gathering information from officers in the area and would provide an update after receiving a full briefing from the Divisional Police Officer.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread reactions online. Fans and fellow content creators have expressed concern for Peller’s wellbeing, with many urging greater attention to mental health challenges faced by social media influencers.
Previous livestream incident
According to The PUNCH, this is not the first time the 20-year-old influencer has drawn public attention during a livestream. In August, he was reportedly taken away by armed men while broadcasting live on TikTok as he returned home.
In that earlier incident, footage showed Peller initially assuming the men were security operatives before being escorted away. The circumstances surrounding that episode were never fully clarified.
As investigations continue into Sunday’s crash, the latest episode has renewed conversations about online pressure, emotional distress, and the need for support systems for young content creators in Nigeria.
