The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has officially named Nigerian rapper and actor FalzTheBahdGuy and French-Senegalese actress Liliane Maroune as hosts of the 9th edition of the prestigious event.
The awards, organised by the International Executive Committee of AFRIMA in partnership with the African Union Commission and the Lagos State Government, are scheduled to take place from January 7 to 11, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.
With this appointment, FalzTheBahdGuy becomes only the second Nigerian to host AFRIMA, following music legend 2Baba, who co-hosted the inaugural edition in 2014. Over the years, the awards have featured a lineup of prominent hosts from across Africa and the diaspora, including Akon, Pearl Thusi, Eddie Kadi, and Ahmed Sylla.
Celebrated Hosts Bring Talent and Influence
FalzTheBahdGuy is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most influential artists, known for his sharp lyrics, dynamic stage presence, and socially conscious commentary. Beyond music, he has earned acclaim as an actor, starring in films such as New Money, Brotherhood, 10 Days in Sun City, and Chief Daddy.
Liliane Maroune, a French-Senegalese actress, model, and TV host, adds international appeal and a strong African identity to the awards. Maroune, who also has Lebanese and Mauritanian ancestry, is known for her roles in West African TV series such as Emprises and Coeurs Brisés, as well as for hosting the talk show Wakhtane Ak Lily, where she interviews leading African creatives. Her growing influence across Africa and Europe makes her a fitting co-host for the ceremony.
Nde Ndifonka, AFRIMA Regional Director for Central Africa, highlighted the significance of the pairing, stating, “FalzTheBahdGuy brings intelligence, strong ideas, and a powerful African voice that connects with both young and old audiences. Liliane embodies elegance, diversity, and the contemporary African woman with international influence. Together, they showcase the strength and richness of African music and culture.”
Five Days of Music, Culture, and Celebration
The countdown to the 9th AFRIMA has generated excitement among fans worldwide, who are still voting for their favourite artistes in 39 award categories on www.afrima.org.
The five-day event will kick off on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with a Welcome Soirée at the British Deputy High Commission House in Lagos. The Africa Music Business Summit will follow on Thursday, January 8, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites.
On Friday, January 9, music lovers from across the continent are expected to gather at Ikeja City Mall, Alausa, Lagos, for the AFRIMA Music Village. Saturday will feature the Nominees & Industry Party, leading up to the Main Awards Show on Sunday, January 11, also at the Eko Convention Centre. The red carpet will open at 3:00 PM (WAT), and the ceremony will be broadcast live to more than 84 countries, ensuring global audiences can join the celebration.
Experts in African music and culture note that AFRIMA continues to play a key role in promoting continental talent and fostering cross-cultural collaborations. Dr. Tolu Ajayi, a music industry analyst, said, “With hosts like Falz and Liliane, AFRIMA 2026 is poised to highlight not just talent, but also Africa’s growing global influence in entertainment.”
