Popular skit maker Emmanuella has responded to renewed questions surrounding the long running financial controversy raised by fellow comedian Denilson Igwe, offering a calm reflection on her early career and her relationship with the Mark Angel Comedy brand.
Speaking in an interview that has circulated widely online, Emmanuella discussed her years working under Mark Angel, whose comedy platform introduced her to a global audience. According to her, the experience was largely positive and formative.
“Well, it was a fun experience,” she said. “That was where my foundation started. It was a very good experience. It helped me navigate. It helped me to learn how to be confident and to speak for myself.”
Reaction to money controversy
When asked directly about her exit from the Mark Angel Comedy team and the money related allegations previously made by Denilson Igwe, Emmanuella appeared unwilling to dwell on the dispute. She downplayed suggestions of personal grievances and emphasized gratitude over conflict.
“It was just… I don’t think I have any issues,” she said. “Like I said, he was my foundation. He helped me to know who I am becoming. So, I am forever grateful.”
Her comments come amid ongoing public debate following Igwe’s claims that some members of the Mark Angel Comedy team were poorly compensated despite the platform’s commercial success on YouTube.
Advice to parents
Beyond the controversy, Emmanuella used the opportunity to speak to parents whose children are involved in entertainment and creative industries. She urged them to remain actively involved rather than handing over full responsibility to managers or production teams.
“Parents, be active,” she said. “Anything your child wants to do, be there. Care, understand. Don’t just say you have handed them over to this person or that person.”
Media analysts say such advice reflects broader concerns in Nigeria’s fast growing digital entertainment space, where young talents often rise quickly without strong legal or parental oversight.
Background to the dispute
Denilson Igwe had earlier alleged that despite Mark Angel Comedy generating substantial monthly revenue from YouTube, some performers received modest stipends. He claimed that even after years of contributing to the brand’s success, he was not adequately compensated. Igwe also suggested that Emmanuella was among those who earned little during her time with the group.
Mark Angel has since stated publicly that he no longer manages Emmanuella and fellow child star Success, explaining that both are now represented by a professional management company. However, he has not directly addressed the specific financial figures cited by Igwe.
As discussions continue online, Emmanuella’s remarks appear aimed at shifting focus away from controversy and toward personal growth, gratitude, and responsible guidance for young creatives entering the industry.
