The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his eight-year-old daughter, in a case that has sparked concern over child protection in the region.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, the suspect, identified as Baffa’ji Abba, reportedly lured his daughter into a bathroom on the evening of December 30, 2025, and subjected her to repeated sexual abuse. Habib said the assault involved both vaginal and anal penetration and allegedly occurred five times in a single day against the child’s will.
“The matter was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Alkaleri on December 31, 2025, by Baffa’ji Muhammed, who resides at the same address as the suspect,” Habib stated.
Swift Police Response
Following the report, a team of detectives led by CSP Kadiri Danjuma, Divisional Police Officer at Alkaleri, promptly visited the scene. The eight-year-old victim was immediately taken to General Hospital Alkaleri for medical attention, while the suspect was arrested.
During questioning, Habib confirmed, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime without resistance. The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a thorough and discreet investigation, ensuring that all evidence is carefully documented.
“The investigation is being conducted meticulously to explore the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offence,” Habib said, noting that authorities aim to gather sufficient evidence before proceeding with legal action.
Legal and Social Implications
The suspect is expected to face formal charges in court once profiling and investigations are complete. Cases of child sexual abuse remain a significant challenge in Nigeria, and Bauchi State authorities have emphasized the importance of rapid response and careful evidence handling.
Experts on child welfare note that timely intervention in such cases is crucial, both for securing evidence and for providing victims with medical and psychological support. According to reports, local NGOs have also called for increased awareness campaigns to educate communities about child rights and the mechanisms available for reporting abuse.
“This incident underscores the ongoing need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable children, especially within households,” said a child protection analyst who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.
Authorities are expected to complete the investigation swiftly and present the findings in court. Meanwhile, police continue to encourage community members to report suspicious behavior promptly to prevent further abuse.
This case also highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in balancing discreet evidence gathering with public awareness in sensitive child protection matters. Experts say that careful handling of such cases is necessary to avoid compromising investigations while ensuring justice is served.
