Tragedy has struck the camp of former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua following the death of his personal trainer, Latz, in a fatal car accident in Ogun State.
The crash occurred less than 24 hours after Latz arrived in Nigeria, according to reports. The incident happened along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and also claimed the life of another member of Joshua’s team.
Earlier on Sunday, GistReel reported that Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident on the same expressway. According to the report, the boxer sustained only minor injuries and was treated, while two people lost their lives in the crash.
How the Accident Happened
According to reports, the accident occurred when a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and members of his entourage collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. Preliminary accounts attributed the crash to excessive speed and a wrongful overtaking maneuver.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. While Joshua survived with minor injuries, two of his close associates were confirmed dead.
Confirmation from the Boxing Community
Badou Jack, a three-division world boxing champion, confirmed Latz’s death in an emotional post on Instagram. The boxer said he was still struggling to come to terms with the loss and offered prayers for the deceased.
“Still in shock. May Allah forgive you for your shortcomings and grant you the highest level of paradise,” Jack wrote.
Meanwhile, ACD MMA also confirmed the identities of the victims, stating that Latz, Anthony Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina, his strength and conditioning coach, both died in the crash.
Coaches and Close Allies Lost
According to ACD MMA, the two men who died were not only coaches but also close friends of Anthony Joshua. Sina served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach and was recently seen working with him during preparations for a bout involving Jake Paul about two weeks ago. Latz, meanwhile, was responsible for Joshua’s personal training and day-to-day fitness routines.
Investigation Ongoing
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by the Ogun State Police Command regarding the crash. However, investigations are expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
The deaths have sent shockwaves through the boxing community, with tributes expected to pour in for the late trainers who played key roles in Anthony Joshua’s career.
